Organization Facts
Sigma Phi Epsilon was founded 1901 at Richmond College (now the University of
Richmond) on the Cardinal Principles of Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love. Today,
the Fraternity has grown to more than 262,000 lifetime members, including 13,500
undergraduates on 260 campuses in the United States. SigEp is a "fraternity of firsts"
including being the first IFC National Fraternity to issue a bid of membership to an
African-American (future U.S. Secretary of Commerce Ron Brown) back in the 1950s.
SigEp has many famous brothers such as: Dr. Suess, John Goodman, Rich
Gannon, and Dr. James Naismith the Inventor of the Sport of Basketball; just to name a
few. SigEp is different then most fraternities and strives to redefine the stereotypical
"Frat" image by "Building Balanced Leaders for the World's Communities.
